Week 3 of Production
Week 08 - Devlog - Blast Till Last
Gameplay
Blastin' Shotgun and Boom Sticks!
This week we have added pick ups. The first two offensive pick ups that you can already experience are shotgun and a grenade:
Shotgun
Grenade
As a little Popeye inspired pickup that comes along as well, we have a food can that makes your shockwaves stronger. As you can see the progress of rounds with their own score system is being implemented. Just plain text to test for now.. some cool UI coming soon!
Now you have more ways to blast away your rivals!
New movement
Jumping mechanic was completely reworked and re-balanced to enable a more direct and responsive experience. The use of a new button layout and improve predictability of the jump makes it more fun and engaging.
Dash mechanic was also extensively reworked, now being triggered by a button press and is limited in its duration. The new dash allows for swift attacks and quick escapes.
The movement overall was re-balanced to enable higher pace game play.
Graphics and Art
New Lighting
New Map layout
This week, we created a more moody scene by adding lights, fog and a lot of other fun elements to our scene.
The map layout was changed to allow for more open and flat areas, perfect for battles with your rivals! We have preserved some height difference by putting all stone islands on different levels.
Props
A couple of new props were also created:
- pickup items: the anchor, the grenade launcher with its grenade, and the shotgun. The anchor pickup gives you immunity for any shock wave impulse for a short period of time, and will be added in the game later, so stay tuned for that!
- as an environmental piece, a tree trunk was also added
